I guess I’ve used the upright vacuum to clean up scattered litter more than I realized. When I turn on the vacuum, I smell the dreaded litter box odor, even after changing the bag. Is there a way to get rid of the smell? Is it the hose, maybe?

You probably need a new belt. It would also do some good to clean the brushes on the bottom of it too. If after this you still smell the burning, it is probably the motor, you could take it in to an appliance repair, or buy a new one.

Vacuum is a Hoover Z upright w/a HEPA filter. I took it to get the brush roll repaired and when I got it back it has a horrible smell. What can I do to get rid of it?

I guess I put it back in too early (even though I let it air dry for 2 days) and now it smells sour. I tried rinsing it again, but now it still smells. It is brand new! Any suggestions?
